Advertising on the roundabout

Monday 27. 08. 12 This one is at Marseillan Plage – a popular resort between Agde and Sète. It is celebrating a local game where young boys climb along a greasy pole over the water and try and retrieve the hat . Not sure why the guy is on a bike and or why he has a scantily clad nurse in his trailer! Click on the highlight for the video.

Sardinade

Friday 24. 08. 12 Finally made it to a Sardinade last night. We met at the Grau d’Agde and then boarded the boat for a trip to Fort Brescou which is on a tiny volcanic island  just off Cap d’Agde. Aperos were served as soon as we disembarked, followed by handfulls of sardines grilled on the beach, wine and then sausages, cheese and fresh peaches. An absolute feast eaten as the sun went down.

More roundabouts

Monday 20. 08. 12 Another roundabout – this time at Sète. No vegetation just a big hook, no doubt reflecting the town’s history of fishing and as a port.

New series, perhaps

Sunday 19. 08. 12 Today have been working on the final of the third panel of the Hérault series and perhaps the start of a new series. I have noticed that roundabouts here use the local vegetation with often other features of the locality. The above is a roundabout at Méze showing the indigenous semi-arid cactus-like vegetation. I have done it as a sketch using oil pastels on kraft paper. Will see where it goes.

Bambouseraie

Saturday 11. 08. 12. Today went to the Bambouseraie with Claire and 3 of her friends to celebrate her birthday. It was a very hot day so this was the perfect excursion plus there were installations by two land artists Odile de Frayssinet and Cecile Andrieu which were excellent too.

Hérault scroll

Friday 10. 08. 12. Currently working on a large continuous scroll of 12 panels of the Herault. The finished piece will consists of 12 panels each 100cm x 80 cm but I am also doing a rough version 1/4 size. The above are roughs of kids swimming at Belarga and the quarry at Bessan.

Chabaud

Sunday 05. 08. 12 Went to Séte  for lunch today with Gisèle and Jonathan. Had an excellent lunch on the quay and then went up to the Chabaud expo at the Musée Paul Valéry. Interesting show of an artist whose work I did not know, including an excellent half hour video which alone is worth the price of admission!
