The Drawing Room

Saturday 16. 10. 10 George invited me to go with him and Laurene to this show this afternoon. It was in the old church at the Carré Ste Anne in Montpellier. A very inspiring show of drawings from contemporary galleries in Montpellier, art schools in Montpellier and Nimes and works from the collection of Piet Moget. The theme was contemporary landscape and there were drawings in a myriad of styles from abstract, through naive to architectural, from the famous to the unknown. And the audience was as varied, from young parents with small children in strollers to seniors. Afterwards we had a coffee and watched the strikers marching through the city.

Last of the Prairies

Tuesday 12. 10. 10 Finished up another two drawings and have now finished the prairie section of the journey. Also did the base drawing for a large portrait of Daisy.

At last the prairies

Monday 11. 10. 10 Have had a good day today and managed to do three more drawings and have finally got out of northern Ontario and on to the prairies. I am now at the half way point in the series so have 10 more drawings to go before I get to Vancouver.

More Drawings Cross Canada 2

Thursday 07. 10. 10 I have been working on more drawings from my cross Canada trip. I had originally thought that I would colour them but now have decided to keep them as B&W drawings and then use them as the basis for a series of monoprints, perhaps coloured. The two drawings above are both Northern Ontario.

Cross Canada 1

Sunday 03. 10. 10 For the last week I have been working on a new series of drawings on mylar based on my trip out west by train.  I have begun four drawings  and am still exploring techniques. The drawing above is of Northern Ontario. More to come…

St Mathieu revisited

Sunday 03. 10. 10 Yesterday was a busy day. After lunch I drove into Baillargues and dropped off Daisy’s present for her friend Clémence with her Dad Jean-Luc. I then drove over to Claire’s for afternoon tea with Claire and her Mum. We had a lot to catch up on as we had hardly seen each other over the summer. In the evening I went to the vernissage of the new Vendémiaires show at St Mathieu. Interesting show. I didn’t stay too long as it was starting to get dark and was also starting to rain so had an exciting ride back to Clermont on unlit back country roads.

London

Saturday 17. 07. 10 Spent the morning in the studio whilst Carole and Daisy were at Pezenas market. Finished a couple of small paintings for the London show in November. Tonight up to George and Laurene”s for a swim and dinner.

Bail’Arts

Thursday 08. 07. 10 Today was the last day of our show in Baillargues. Pleasant gallery, well set up but not a lot of visitors. Thanks to all our friends for their support. Lots of lessons learned.

Back to stations

Saturday 26. 06. 10 There is something about Café paintings – I have done three over the last couple of years and they have all sold quickly. The one I put up on my last blog entry sold within a couple of hours to my last house guests the Watsons. Thanks Chris and Chris. Since then I have been back at my monoprints of London stations. I had had a problem with the density of the black but I have changed the coating on the plate from detergent to Gum Arabic and this seems to have solved the problem. I have also added a bit of spot colour but I’m not totally convinced. Still getting stuff ready for the arrival of Carole and Daisy and the show in Baillarges next weekend.

Summer is here

Wednesday 23. 6. 10 Summer seems to be here, finally. Have been busy in the studio this week and have finished Café à midi (see above). Also have been getting ready for the show in Baillarges. Jonathan and I have had several meeting and I think that we are now organized. I am looking forward to Carole and Daisy arriving next Tuesday so next month will be busy with the show and visitors. Hopefully the weather will remain sunny.
