Thanksgiving

Monday 10. 10. 11 Just back from an amazing Thanksgiving lunch at Marg and Stan’s complete with turkey and pumpkin pie on the terrace in the bright sunshine. Delicious!

Les Vendémiaires 2

Friday 07. 10. 11 It has been a busy week. I brought David and Carla with Joan’s sister Mary-Ann to Clermont on Tuesday. David, Carla and I had lunch with Carol and then we had a tour round the lake and a tour of Joan’s studio before I took them back to St Mathieu. Wednesday went with the group to Avignon for the day and we saw an excellent expo at the Collection Lambert there. Yesterday evening I went with Kevin and Emma to St Mathieu where we heard all the artist’s presentations and Kevin and Emma interviewed Jacques and David.

Les Vendémiaires

Sunday 02. 10. 11 Last night was the vernissage for the annual Vendémiaire’s expo in St Mathieu. It was also their 25th anniversary so there were many speeches by all the local dignataries. It was an excellent turnout and the show is well worth seeing. I met my Irish friends Carla and David there. David is exhibiting. The show is onfor a week.

Daily drawing

Thursday 29. 09. 11 I have been doing a chalk drawing every day except whilst I was away.

Picnic sur l’herbe

Monday 26. 09. 11 Just got back from a weekend chez Marie-Pierre and Olivier at St Médard en Jalles near Bordeaux. Rode the scooter over to see how it and I performed on long journeys. We both did well and I was surprised at how unstressed I was after 9 hours in the saddle!! I just took the RN roads so didn’t have much traffic to deal with and just enjoyed the changing landscapes, architecture and crops. Of course it helped that the weather was perfect. Fished with Olivier and Marie-Pierre in the Bassin d’Arcachon together with Laurens and Didier, successfully for the first time, had the usual sumptious meals and even managed to get up to Rochefort to the Marine Museum and Pierre Loti’s house, both well worth a visit.

Blackboard

19. 09. 11 Monday Made a blackboard this weekend which I put in my kitchen. I’m going to try and do a new drawing on it most days. This is day#2.

Last drawing

Tuesday 13. 09. 11 Finally finished the drawings of the trip down east that I did with Daisy this summer. Now on to the monoprints!

Modular Monoprints

Monday 29. 08. 11 I have been exploring the idea of modular monoprints as per above. Each ‘module’ is 30 x 24 cm so you can end up with an image nearly a metre wide. One of the problems is keeping the same pressure when you print each module and one of the advantages is that you can hand print quite large images depending on the number of modules that you have.

Back in the Hérault

Friday 19. 08. 11 I have been back in France 5 days now and it has been hot and sunny. Slowly getting back to work and today took a drive north into the Aveyron to La Scierie in Fondamente to see an expo. Interesting show by Paule Riché inspired by her sojourn at the atelier. All Indian ink on rice paper or wood. The atelier was an old saw mill used to making amongst other items very thin slices of wood used to separate Roquefort cheeses when packed!
