Tuesday 20. 05. 14 Up at the crack of dawn again heading for Ayer’s Rock resort passing through the outback and checked into our hotel at lunch time. In the afternoon hiked up Walpa Gorge and then did sunset at Ayer’s Rock.

Monday 19. 05. 14 Flew into Alice Springs this morning. Feels like a frontier town – new, brash and somewhat lacking in character. Up early tomorrow to head out to Ayer’s Rock.

Sunday 18. 05. 14 Busy last day here. After breakfast did a 2-1/2 hour walking tour and then revisited State library to see Ned Kelly exhibit and then on to the Potter gallery to see another Piranesi show. After hot pie lunch went to an excellent indigenous show at the Museum of Melbourne. Took free streetcar back to hotel.

Saturday 17. 05 .14 Had breakfast again at the market and then took a cruise down the Yarra river into the harbour. In the afternoon went to the Immigration museum – again an excellent exhibition.

Friday 16. 05. 14.Started to explore Melbourne today. Went to Queen Victoria market for breakfast, saw a Piranessi show at the State Library, the Aboriginal galleries at NGV and some installations at the ACCA. Was struck by the similarity of the mark making of Piranessi and the aboriginal bark paintings.
Biennale
Thursday 15. 05. 14. Went to another Biennale site yesterday – Cockatoo
Island. An old convict prison and shipyard. The site was more interesting than the installations! Also did the superb Barracks Museum showing early convict life in the colony.

Tuesday 15. 05. 14 Today went to Museum of Contemporary Australian Art and the NSW Art Gallery. Both excellent. Also stumbled across the Australian Biennale which was really good too.

Monday 05. 05. 14 Here are all the usual suspects celebrating Carole’s 70th last Saturday. Her actual birthday is Wednesday.

Monday 05. 05. 14 Went to organ recital with Daisy on friday celebrating the 100th birthday of the church organ. Afterwards we enjoyed the cake. Yesterday went with Poppy to the Cabbagetown Forsythia Festival where she was in the parade.
